Valentines day is usually associated with a man flooding a woman with love and romance to make up for the rest of the year when he is self-absorbed. But it seems this year is somewhat different.
Social networks have been instead flooded with memes referring to the end of chivalry and the need for equality over feminism. It would seem the time has come when men want equality too so that relationships, if they are still needed, go both ways in terms of ending aged stereotypes. Misandry is now equal to Misogyny.

The men were particularly vocal against the inherent misandry in society. Twitter user, Jeffrey Wang (@deadbeat_47) from San Jose in California, tweeted: “Feminism and Valentines Day don’t mix. If you are a feminist and still expect guys to treat you like a princess, you are an idiot.” Andrew Kmiec (@andrewkmiec), who describes himself as a storyteller and filmaker tweeted: “This #ValentinesDay I’m letting my girlfriend spoil me because I support feminism / women’s equality.”
Some women were even more cutting of their fellow sex. Anisha Daga (@anisha_925) tweeted: “Valentines day is more like feminism day for all the single ladies out there.” And Jasmine Vo (@jasminelvo) tweeted: “A boyfriend isn’t going to complete you, ya know independence feminism and all that jazz #ValentinesDay”
It would seem from Twitter that sex equality is no longer about giving women more rights, but about the rights and needs of all being respected. In the age of same sex marriage, it might become necessary for the law to become neutral to sex and gender in order to end the sexism espoused by feminists like Caroline Criado Perez, who seem to think the only way to treat women more equally is to treat men less favourably.
